Carnival On the Bayou
Houma Hosts Louisiana’s Second Largest Mardi Gras Celebration
Roughly an hour west of New Orleans, on the banks of Bayou Terrebonne, Houma, a quiet, unassuming town 50 weeks of the year transforms itself into the bayou Mardi Gras capital of Louisiana during the days leading up to Fat Tuesday.
Home to the second largest Mardi Gras festival in Louisiana (by number of parades) and filled with great Cajun cooking, Houma’s Mardi Gras is a terrific alternative to the madness and crowds of the Big Easy. Still fun, and still crazy, if that’s what you want, Houma offers quite a few family friendly alternatives and other activities to keep the kiddies (and everyone else) occupied during the day.
